HEY HOWDY HEY. Happy Wednesday!!
It’s been a minute since I’ve talked to you guys for real, but I hope you’re all having a wonderful New Year so far. Happy 2017!!! 🙂 My time feels a little less hectic now so I should have more time to dedicate to blogging.
Since it’s a new year, I thought it would be fun to do a roundup of some of my favorite blogs that I’ve casually mentioned but never explained what they were about. Plus, I think it’s important to be supportive of everyone in the blogging community. It’s truly an amazing group of talented individuals!
Trust me, I have many more blog recommendations than these, but I capped it at 17 because its 2017.
In alphabetical order (because I’m THAT person):
I’ll always have my freshman roommate to thank for this one! After reading a few posts, I was hooked on Monique’s creative recipes, gorgeous food photography, and inspiring wellness posts and advice. You’ll also read about her life in Chicago, her love for new and challenging workouts, traveling, and her obsession with rugs. As a bonus, Monique also has an adorable cat named Millie.
Not only is Amy one of the sweetest people I know, but her blog remains true to its tagline, “easy recipes for all occasions.” Get this: she studied Organic Chemistry and planned on being in the Pharmaceutical industry, but left to become a full-time blogger. She knows that baking is a SCIENCE. For this reason, I’ve had success with every single one of her recipes that I’ve tried! If you have a huge sweet tooth but feel like having desserts that are a little less butter and sugar-laden, Amy is your girl! Her recipes are all healthier versions to the classic and indulgent ones. A MUST-FOLLOW!
You’ve all heard me talk about Alyssa several times here on the blog, and I even got to meet her in July! She’s become an incredible friend. <3 Her blog posts range from life after recovering from an eating disorder, mental health, college life, and body positivity. Even if you’ve never dealt with an ED or a negative body image, her incredible wisdom and strong sense of faith will inspire you!
Yup, more sweet things! CCK was actually the very first blog I ever discovered on the internet, so she will always hold a special place in my heart. Her recipes are completely vegan and often allergy-free, as Katie is a vegan herself. And yes, there’s SO MUCH chocolate!! A blog that proves that vegan desserts are INSANELY good.
Yup, it’s exactly what you think…a blog that’s literally about DESSERTS that BENEFIT you! Yeah, it’s a thing. Jessica’s recipes feature good-for-you ingredients to make desserts that you can feel good about eating. She holds a degree in Nutritional Sciences so you know everything is legit! She’s also a sweetheart and even works in a bakery in her home of Texas! Plus her dog Cherry is pretty adorable and makes random appearances on the blog.
6. Emilie Eats
A vegan lifestyle and food blog that’s for veg and non-veg taste buds alike! If Emilie’s sweet personality and beautiful food photos don’t entice you, you might have a slight problem. She also touches on her struggles with disordered eating, the pressures of competing in pageants, and how she’s been able to overcome them. If you have interest in whole foods, loving your body, and finding what fitness routine works for YOU, Emilie Eats is the blog you don’t wanna miss!
You might remember her as a featured Warrior Woman, and what a woman she is! Erin is a recovering addict who started her blog as a way to share her inner struggles to help “get outside of herself.” Her story has even been shared on Huffington Post! After hitting rock bottom, she’s now an NASM personal trainer, fitness instructor, and lover of all things Whole Foods (the store AND the food itself!) Erin’s blog is an excellent resource for insight about the fitness world, healthy eating, and breaking the stigma of addiction.
Wanna see tons of delicious, healthy recipes, gorgeous travel photos, and fun workouts? Then this is the blog for you! “Where healthy meets delicious.” As a former overexerciser and food restricter, Lee’s blog is all about finding the balance between food, fitness, and life. Her writing style is absolutely hilarious and her lust for life will keep you smiling!
Cayanne is not only a friend, but she’s an INCREDIBLE eating disorder recovery warrior. Her blog focuses on the concept of “self love” and being “so proud”, especially in the midst of our society’s incredibly rigid diet culture and fitness industry. As a fellow college student and amazing motivator, Cayanne lives to help other women learn to eat intuitively, exercise for happiness, break the stigma around eating disorder, and fall in love with their bodies again.
10. Imma Eat That
As another Warrior Woman, Kylie’s blog holds a special place in my heart. I discovered her in a relapse of my disorder, and I honestly think it woke me up again. As a Master of Public Health, a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, and a Licensed Dietitian, Kylie’s philosophy on healthy eating is something that she calls “normal eating.” She advocates for body positivity and no food rules, which I LOVE. No foods are off-limits! Seriously, if you struggle with loving yourself, eating, or exercising, Kylie’s wisdom is not one to be missed.
When you read the words, “putting happiness back into healthy living”, you know you’ve landed a winner. Georgie has become a wonderful friend over the years, and her blog is all about “exploring the connections between wellness, self care, what you eat, and your relationships with others” in order to reach your healthiest life. She also used to struggle with disordered eating and an exercise addiction like me. You’ll find inspiring wellness posts, self-discovery stories, and delicious whole foods recipes! Georgie’s honest writing will keep you nodding in agreement and will motivate you to make positive changes in your life.
Daily life in New York City, tasty and healthy recipes, and an obsession with dark chocolate is what you’ll find on Rachel’s blog. Her recipes require minimal ingredients, basic cooking skills, little-to-no prep time, and they’re SO delicious! In essence, Rachel wants you to feel like healthy and delicious food is accessible, easy, and fun. You’ll also read about her insane love for Whole Foods and Barre classes, so I definitely need to meet her and become her best friend.
Oh Sally, how do I even begin?! To me, this is the NUMBER ONE baking blog you should be following, no question about it!! As a self-taught baker, every single one of Sally’s recipes are kitchen-tested, excellent quality, and always include tips, tricks, and advice for the cooking/baking process. Afraid to make something? No problem! Sally gives you all the confidence and information you need to be a successful cook/baker. Her photos are also PHENOMENAL and will make you drool. I won’t judge. 😉 BONUS: I got to meet her last October and she’s just as sweet as her recipe! Plus, her adorable dogs Jude and Franklin make appearances on the blog every now and then!
I like to call them “The Dynamic Duo.” Oh yeahhh, this blog is a husband and wife team! With their love for all things YUMMY, Jennifer brings you a plethora of easy, delicious, and sometimes healthy recipes while her husband, Trevor, is the mastermind behind the website, marketing, finances, videography, and editing. Jennifer’s cute sense of humor and Trevor’s talent for recipe videos will keep you coming back for more every day! Sometimes you hear about their big dog, Teddy!
When she was diagnosed with Celiac’s Disease at age 19, she had to learn to cook all over again. Soon she discovered how to create recipes that would suit not only her food intolerances, but work for those with other dietary needs as well. So yes, you can bet that all of Kristy’s recipes are gluten free and allergy-friendly! That doesn’t mean they’re gross though. In fact, they’re just the opposite! They’re easy, absolutely delicious, and good for you! You’d never guess her recipes are gluten free.
A blend of daily life, travel, beautiful photography, wellness, struggles with body image, and delicious food is what you’ll find on Davida’s blog. Her health philosophy on “nothing being off-limits” and “choosing to fuel her body with real food because that’s what makes her feel awesome” is relatable and inspiring. Her honesty and acknowledgement that we’re all human keeps her blog full of fresh and REAL content. BONUS: you sometimes hear about Bodhi, her adorable labradoodle, and she’s best friends with Lee, of Fit Foodie Finds!
I’d like to thank Robyn for keeping my head on straight when I’ve struggled with negative body thoughts and relapses. She’s my biggest woman crush EVER! As a Registered Dietitian and (now recently) a Nurse Practitioner, her knowledge, love for dessert, and advocacy for body positivity has always left me smiling and happy. She’s probably the biggest voice of reason amongst our society’s crazy weight-loss fads and diets and always preaches for self-love and body acceptance. She lives in NYC so you’ll also get some awesome restaurant recommendations!
Now tell me…
