“‘Flix” Fit For Foodies!

If you can say the title of this post five times fast you’re a rockstar.

It’s also FRIDAY!:)
Wow, apparently I’m loving the letter “f” today.

Speaking of love, thank you all SO much for your kind words about my WWW feature on Wednesday. My mom is truly an amazing woman and I’m glad you all agree!❤

Now, on to today’s post!

Okay, let’s just say I’ve been doing a LOT of Netflixing lately. I just finished 30 Rock, which was ehhh, (sorry everyone) but then I realized I had nothing else to watch after this. I took a look at the “My List” section on Netflix and realized I had sooo many things in there about cooking, so I started to watch one. Then I couldn’t stop….

I was so intrigued by everything I saw that I knew I had to share it with all of you! Now do you understand what the ‘flix in the title means?😉

Here are my 4 recommendations for some Netflix and chilling…foodie edition.

The Mind of a Chef

Narrated and produced by the famous Anthony Bourdain, this PBS 4-season series follows the lives and minds of seven different chefs from around the world. It’s basically a non-trashy reality show for foodies, as these chefs travel around the world in search for the best ingredients, meals, and inspirations. You guys, THE FOOD. Each episode focuses on one specific aspect of the chef being featured. Some examples would be: “Bourbon”, “Rice”, “Sea Salt” or “Curry”. One of my favorite episodes featured Chef David Ching in search of the perfect bowl of noodles in Japan. It’s crazy! The Mind of a Chef combines everything you’d want in a show: humor, science, travel, art, and most importantly, AMAZING FOOD. If you want to know what the inside of a chef’s mind is like, this show is for you.

Chef’s Table

I just finished this one on Monday and is also probably my personal favorite. Each episode of the 1-season show profiles the lives, talents, and passions of six world-renowned chefs. These chefs are FINE DINING at it’s finest (haha, “fine”).  I’m talkin’ tiny food at huge prices. If you aren’t intrigued by the first 10 minutes of the first episode, then I’m an idiot. The footage is incredible and the camera angles add everything to the food presentation. These chefs are culinary artists. Look at that picture above! The food, although small, still has massive amounts of time, prep work, and creativity put into it. A dish named “Five ages of Parmigiano Reggiano in different textures and temperatures”? Thank you, Chef Massimo Bottura. Bottom line: the individuality of each episode is amazing, and you’ll want to become a hardcore foodie after watching this series. Speaking of foodie….

Foodies: The Culinary Jetset

Okay, you might think you’re a foodie, but this show will make you think twice about it. In the 90 minute documentary, we enter the world of the foodie, a.k.a. some of the most influential people in the food scene. These particular people are food bloggers, but they’re not like the food bloggers you and I know. Their mission? Find the best and most exclusive restaurants in the world. Why? Just because. You might think they’re bizarre, but these people just LOVE food.

The first episode might have you a little confused about what this show is actually about, but then you start to understand. Think about the Earth’s natural elements: earth, wind, fire, and air. What do they all have in common? The power to transform raw ingredients into food. That’s what creator and best-seller author Michael Pollan is trying to get viewers to understand, and it’s brilliant. Each episode focuses on a particular element and how it affects the food we eat. How does food get to our plate? What is the evolution of food? What happened to the idea of prep-work? Am I the only one who finds this stuff interesting?! Either way, Pollan is trying to end the trend in which fewer people are making food for themselves, and ultimately tell the history of human cooking.

Please excuse any errors you might find in this post. I finished this post late last night because I still have to finish a paper. There was also a cake baking in my oven for the reception after the show tomorrow.

Can you say multi-tasking?!

Now tell me…

  • What are your favorite Netflix shows?
  • Do you think the “foodie” trend will last?

Have an amazing day everyone, HAPPY FRIDAY!❤
