Well HELLO there everyone!
It’s been awhile, right?? Happy to be back and posting with an awesome birthday weekend recap for you all.
By the way, I hope you all took some time on Sunday to tell your mothers (or mother figure) how much you appreciate them. They gave us life and we wouldn’t be here without them!❤ THANK YOU MOM!
I didn’t take as many pictures as I thought I would, but I managed to snap a few that I thought were pretty. Enjoy!
- Friday: Rain, rain go away! After a longer-than-normal bus ride, I was into a chill night at home featuring some Indian food (SO GOOD) and “All the President’s Men“. It’s such a good movie. Whether you’re into politics or not, everyone should watch it!
- Saturday: venturing around King St. in Alexandria, such a fun and cute area! I highly recommend checking out the Comic Book Store if you’re into that sort of thing.
- After grabbing some lunch at Sweetgreen (YUM TO THE MAX) we headed back home to relax and watch The Kentucky Derby before dinner. Go Nyquist!
- Speaking of dinner, yay for being legal!?
His: Pesto Chicken Rigatoni with a gin martini. So classy.
Hers: Pan-Seared Haddock, Broccoli Rabe, and Zucchini with a glass of Friulano.
Everything was so delicious but we chose to skip dessert and head right out to some bars a bar. I can only handle so much for a newbie!? Haha
I had to. Sorry Mom and Dad.?
- Sunday: How else do you start a Sunday morning? By brunching of course! It’s weird, usually I’m working the brunch shift on Saturdays and Sundays but this was such a treat. The restaurant was lively and artsy and I definitely recommend it to anyone. There were a ton of vegetarian and vegan options on the menu at Busboys and Poets!
(Keep in mind I had already took a bite of my food before I took this picture. I promise there were more eggs on my plate. Also I took it at the wrong angle, sorry!)
*Not pictured: a big Vegan Chocolate Chip Cookie that I was craving!*
- After brunch we walked around downtown….7 miles to be exact! It flew by because it was an absolutely gorgeous day and we had so much fun meandering and having no agenda.
Look Mom, I made it! Highlight of the afternoon….
It’s so awesome to see everyone out and about and just enjoying life. Having no agenda and just enjoying the weather got me thinking about a few things I’m learning in my life so far:
- Stop saying sorry for things that aren’t your fault.
I do this A LOT, just ask Cal! For instance, we couldn’t decide on what to watch on Sunday evening and I kept saying sorry because I wanted to make sure that we would both enjoy whatever it was. Considering he had no preference whatsoever, why the heck should I be saying sorry about it?! No idea. It’s a habit that I’m working on fixing. Anyone else struggle with this? - Listen to your body. It will tell you what you need.
Counting calories used to consume my life, but now I only rely on listening to what my body needs and wants. For example, after brunch on Sunday I really wanted something sweet, and a vegan chocolate chip cookie was totally calling my name. Me being me, I couldn’t decide if I wanted one, but then Cal convinced me and I’m SO glad he did. I was way happier after a few bites of that warm cookie and I didn’t even think twice about it. - Life is short and life is good, ENJOY IT!
Being “legal” now has allowed me to realize that yeah, life is short and goes by so fast, so I think I WILL have that glass of wine with dinner and enjoy myself! Overdoing it isn’t my thing, but I definitely am learning to enjoy the simple pleasures of life like some wine and spending time with people I love. Think about the other cultures of the world that thrive on times of good food and drink, like Italy for example. It’s SUCH a difference but it’s incredible! Life moves slower, people enjoy themselves more, and it’s so refreshing. This summer I’m going to embrace my inner European and enjoy more of life without worrying about everything being perfect.
Cheers to life everyone! XOXO
Eat well, live well, and BE WELL.❤
