What is up party people?!?

I know my semester starts Monday, but it’s common for it to become very busy very quickly. Classes, rehearsals, workouts, working, paying bills, grocery shopping, meetings…it adds up!

However, remember my post yesterday? I’ll try not to let my tiredness or stress get to me throughout the few months. Find your happiness in every situation and you’re set! 🙂

Now I also just found out that one of my classes was switched to online, so Tues/Thurs I don’t have class starting until 1:00! SO MUCH FREE TIME. WHAT TO DO.

My days are ever-changing throughout the semester, but for now, here’s what a typical day should be like for me!
(Don’t worry, I probably won’t be at the gym at 6AM on Tuesday or Thursday)

What a Monday looks like:

  • 6:00 AM – Wake up, go to the gym/workout
  • 7:15(ish) AM – Start the coffee and type up the day’s blog post
  • 8:30 AM – Have breakfast
  • 9:00 AM – Get ready for the day
  • 9:15 AM – Leave for first class
  • 9:40 AM – First class
  • 11:15 AM – Grab lunch before next class
  • 12:00 PM – Second class
  • 1:00 PM – Third class
  • 2:30 PM – Start homework, studying, have a mid-day snack, or answer emails
  • 4:30 PM – Rehearsal
  • 5:30 PM – Eat a quick dinner
  • 6:30 PM – More rehearsal
  • 8:45 PM – Go home, start homework or shower (HAHA showering…)
  • 9:00 PM – Have a bedtime snack and maybe start tomorrow’s blog post
  • 9:30 PM – Watch a little TV, maybe
  • 10/10:30 PM – Go to bed (depending on how much work I have that day)

No day is ever the same for me, except for class and rehearsal times. Sometimes I have meetings or other appointments with teachers/advisers, or maybe another rehearsal gets thrown into the mix. Hey, it happens!

Here a few questions I know most of you might have:

How do you find time to eat?
I ALWAYS make sure I have snacks in my bag. When I don’t, that usually means some of my friends didn’t have enough food so I fed them. The essentials are: Quest Bars, fruits (dried and/or fresh), nuts (almonds are a fave!), Greek yogurt, and hard-boiled eggs.

Do you ever get tired of dancing?
Sometimes, yes. There are some days where I really just want to take off my feet. This usually happens towards the end of the semester when papers, projects, shows, and rehearsals have all caught up with me.

What’s your favorite part of your day? Why?
Any time where I can sit down and actually enjoy a meal, (and maybe some tea/coffee). When you’re on-the-go all day with not a lot of breaks in between, it’s hard to find time to actually sit down and eat, instead of eating quick foods like Greek yogurts, bars, nuts, or fruits. I love being able to sit, unplug, and taste every bite of my food. This is usually dinnertime for me, unless I know I have a rehearsal coming up soon.

How long are your classes and rehearsals?
My dance classes are always 90 minutes, and other academic classes could span from 50 minutes to an hour and 20 minutes. This semester I have 50 minutes for an academic class.
Rehearsals are typically 90 minutes-2 hours, depending on the piece or choreographer. Sometimes they could go up to 3 hours! Like I said, I PACK SNACKS.

Do you have any advice for anyone who wants to pursue dance in school?
If you don’t think you’ll be happy in your work, don’t pursue it. Now I’m not saying don’t follow your dreams, I’m saying know what you’re getting yourself into. Be prepared for anything life may throw at you.

It’s very common for artists of any type to be frustrated with their work and want to quit sometimes. The art world is a very tough one, and we often don’t have stable jobs or receive high income from our passions. Sometimes dancers get injured and their careers could be over…now what? Plan B?
To avoid this, don’t just dance smart, dance strong! Cross-train and stay on top of your game. Eat well and eat often, and always remember to hydrate with water! Give yourself rest days. And most importantly, LISTEN TO YOUR BODY!

It’s very normal, though, for people to change their major before they find the one that’s right for them. Don’t lose hope, and always follow your heart!

Have a thrilling Thursday everyone!

BE WELL.❤
