Do You Listen?

Hello everyone!

I’m so sorry I’m posting so late today!! The wifi in my apartment hasn’t worked all morning and it was incredibly frustrating.

But hey, life goes on. Clearly too many people let these kinds of miniscule things affect them. There are wayyy too many important things to care about in life. #firstworldproblems.

Is it gorgeous where you guys are too?? In the midst of a gloomy finals week for the rest of my university, Mother Nature seems to finally have her stuff together.  And everyone is inside….all of my dance finals were last week, hahaha sorry everyone!

Anyway, I woke up this morning feeling like I had a dry, scratchy throat. Oh man, is it happening to me too now?!

But hey, nothing a little salt water and ibuprofen can’t fix. Plus a little sweat session on the elliptical, because sorry running, you’re not happening today!

And guess what? I feel a lot better!! Wanna know why?
Really?? You don’t know…..?

I definitely could’ve ran for a couple miles but felt like complete crap while I was doing it. So that helps me how…?
*Cue the whole point of today’s post*….

My biggest secret for dealing with some kind of physical setback is this……LISTEN TO YOUR BODY.

Whoa….did anyone fall over?! How many times have you heard this from doctors or physical therapists?

I get it: When you have a very active lifestyle, taking a day off is hard. When it comes to working out, pushing yourself is a tried and true way to make progress toward personal goals  . But what about when we push too hard and put our bodies under the bad kind of stress?
Yeah, exercise is good. Well, the right amount of exercise at the right intensity is good. The challenge is figuring out when enough is enough and when it’s just too much. The good news is that our bodies already know the answer. We just need to recognize the signs for when to put the pedal to the metal and when to pump the brakes and actually LISTEN.

Now I’m not saying my lifestyle made me feel kinda crappy this morning, it’s all the stress from the semester. But that’s totally normal, it catches up with everyone eventually.

Thanks to Greatist for this awesome infograph!
How to Listen to Your Body: Overtraining

Makes sense, right?

Considering how busy most of us are with the countless things we make time for each day and life in general, it’s not surprising that we sometimes forget how we’re physically getting through it all.

My secret is this: resolve to pay extra close attention to your body.
What’s more important to you? Taking a few days off to tend to an ache or a cold, or losing weeks/months to an injury or sickness you just can’t kick?

The choice is yours, but please listen and be smart. 🙂

Okay, rant over. Love you. XOXO
